How does SOIVA customer support work?
SOIVA provides WhatsApp support, which you can reach via the QR code in the player or through the Contact page. You can send questions and voice messages, and we’ll respond personally as soon as possible.
How extensive is SOIVA's music library?
SOIVA’s music library is broad and diverse. Its core consists of 70,000 hand-curated tracks selected for active playback. In addition to the most obvious Finnish and international hits, the library includes music from various subculture genres, as well as smaller and more local bands and artists.
How long has SOIVA been on the market?
Soiva Technology was founded in 2024, building on the legacy and backend systems of DjOnline, which had been operating in the industry for many years. SOIVA’s experience in background music thus goes back over 20 years.
Can SOIVA also provide royalty-free music?
Yes. If music plays a smaller role in your space and you want to reduce copyright-related costs, the SOIVA Royalty Free library offers stylish, royalty-free background music for your venue. Get in touch to learn more.
Is SOIVA a Finnish service provider?
Yes. SOIVA is a fully Finnish operator. We operate from the Nekala district of Tampere and provide customer support in Finnish via WhatsApp. SOIVA’s technology and music library are built on over 20 years of DjOnline heritage — the same platform was used to run Radio Helsinki and Radio Classic for several years.
What are the hardware requirements for SOIVA Player?
SOIVA Player runs in a browser: you don’t need any separate devices or installations. All you need is a computer, tablet or other device with the Chrome browser (latest version) and a stable internet connection (we recommend at least 5 Mbit/s). Connect the device to your audio system, open player.soiva.fi, log in, and the music plays.
Do I need licences to play background music?
Yes. Even when playing music through SOIVA Player, playing copyrighted background music in a public space requires playback licences from Gramex and Teosto. You can obtain these via the Teosto and Gramex musiikkiluvat.fi service. The licence fee is determined based on the number of customer seats.
How much does SOIVA Player cost per month?
SOIVA Player: prices starting from Lite €53/month (+VAT), which includes one customised atmosphere and 17 quickly switchable moods. SOIVA Player (€73/month) adds automation that evolves according to the time of day and day of the week. SOIVA Player Pro (€79/month) additionally gives access to Studio Manager remote control, allowing you to build your own playlists. All packages include automatically updating customised playlists and Finnish-language WhatsApp support. You can try SOIVA Player free for 7 days. Please note that in addition to the monthly fee, you will need Gramex and Teosto playback licences, unless you are using the SOIVA Royalty Free library.
How do I switch from my current background music service to SOIVA?
Switching is effortless. Tell us what your space is like and what kind of atmosphere you’re aiming for, and we’ll build the playlists for you based on an onboarding conversation. SOIVA Player runs in a browser, so no separate hardware installation is needed: open Chrome, log in, and the music plays. You can get started the same day you contact us, and try it free for 7 days. If you’re switching from another service, we’ll help with the transition and make sure the music keeps playing without interruption.
Which background music service includes copyright fees in its price?
SOIVA’s Royalty Free library includes music that requires no separate copyright fees to Gramex or Teosto. It is a cost-effective option for spaces where music plays a smaller role. If you prefer a broad library of well-known and emerging artists, SOIVA Player offers over 70,000 hand-curated tracks. Our philosophy is “human-made music first”, and we remit a portion of the monthly fee to music creators via copyright organisations. In that case, copyright fees are handled separately through musiikkiluvat.fi.
What are the hardware requirements for SOIVA Studio?
If live broadcasting is not required, you don’t need any separate hardware. SOIVA Studio runs on a cloud server and is managed via a web browser. For live use, programmes are produced using the Mac version of SOIVA Studio, which can also be managed remotely if needed.
Radio and copyright fees
Gramex and Teosto offer different levels of licences for running radio stations. Larger, advertising-funded stations pay copyright fees as a percentage of turnover. For smaller internet radio stations, the copyright organisations have their own reasonably priced licences. We help determine which licences are needed for your specific situation. SOIVA reports played music automatically, which simplifies copyright declarations.
Do I need a licence to operate an FM radio station?
Operating an FM radio station requires either a short-term broadcasting licence or a longer-term radio operation licence from Traficom. You will also need licences from Gramex and Teosto. We help with sorting these out.
Which radio stations have been implemented using SOIVA Studio?
SOIVA Studio was used to run Radio Helsinki and Radio Classic for several years. Current implementations include Mökkiradio (a local FM radio on three frequencies, running entirely from the cloud) and Radio Soho (a gastropub internet radio). The platform has proven itself in both small community radio and nationwide FM broadcasting.
How do I start an internet radio station in Finland?
SOIVA Studio makes starting an internet radio station easy. You don’t need a physical studio: SOIVA Studio runs on a cloud server and is managed via a web browser. You’ll need music content, a Gramex and Teosto internet radio licence, and a streaming solution. We help with all of these steps: we build the playout system with professional radio automation (ad campaigns, jingles, inserts, track categories, automatic playlists), assist with licensing, and if needed, with the technical implementation of streaming as well. SOIVA’s platform has been used to run Radio Helsinki and Radio Classic with a live studio, as well as FM stations entirely from the cloud. An internet radio station can be set up quickly and cost-effectively.
Where can I find radio automation for a small radio station?
SOIVA Studio is designed for exactly this need. It is an easy-to-use and versatile radio automation system that includes ad campaign management, jingles, inserts, track categories, parametric dynamic playlists, combination playlists, remote management, and comprehensive play history reporting for copyright declarations. A cloud-based internet radio starts from €250/month and FM implementations from €450/month — significantly more affordable than many competing radio automation systems. The same platform has been used to build systems ranging from a local cabin radio to a nationwide FM station.
How much does SOIVA Studio cost?
A cloud-based internet radio (SOIVA Studio NET) starts from €250/month (+VAT) and FM radio operation (SOIVA Studio FM) starts from €450/month (+VAT). The FM package additionally includes the transmission path for FM broadcasting, live capabilities and backup programme sources. Get in touch, and we’ll assess your needs and tailor a suitable package.
Can SOIVA Studio be used for corporate radio or event radio?
Yes. SOIVA Studio is excellently suited for corporate radio, event radio, local internet radio, university radio and municipal radio. The cloud-based solution means you don’t need a physical studio — you can manage the programming from anywhere using a browser. We also help with licensing and technical setup. The barrier to starting your own radio station is low.
How does SOIVA Player differ from Spotify?
Spotify is intended for personal use only. Its licence terms and Finnish legislation prohibit public performance of music via Spotify. When using Spotify, you have to plan the music content yourself and build playlists track by track. At SOIVA, we use automation to build a customised background music stream tailored specifically to your venue. SOIVA’s dynamic playlists contain over 1,500 tracks per atmosphere, so the music never starts repeating itself.
Can you use Spotify as background music in a restaurant or café?
No. Spotify’s licence terms and Finnish legislation prohibit public performance of music via Spotify — it is intended for personal use only. This also applies to other consumer streaming services such as Apple Music and YouTube Music. SOIVA is built specifically for business use. We use automation to create a legal, customised background music stream tailored to your venue, where tracks play at consistent volume and transition seamlessly with no silence in between. You can try SOIVA Player free for 7 days.
How does SOIVA differ from other background music services?
At the core of SOIVA is its unique metadata model. From our music library, 70,000 tracks have been curated for active use. Each track has been manually rated across more than 20 dimensions and over 100 sub-genres on a scale of 1–5. This enables the generation of dynamic playlists — a single playlist can contain over 1,500 tracks, so the music never starts repeating itself. The atmosphere evolves automatically according to the time of day and day of the week. Tracks play at consistent volume and transitions are smooth. SOIVA is also a fully Finnish service: Finnish-language support, over 20 years of experience in background music, and references ranging from Radio Helsinki to nationwide retail chains.
Can using SOIVA increase sales?
Yes, and we leverage this systematically. SOIVA’s atmospheres are designed using research on how music affects purchasing behaviour. Music tempo, genre and other characteristics influence customer purchasing behaviour and dwell time. SOIVA’s dynamic scheduling takes advantage of this automatically, evolving the atmosphere throughout the day. From a staff perspective, extensive and varied playlists reduce the irritation caused by repetition and improve workplace satisfaction, which translates into lower staff turnover. All of these have clear cost implications.
Can I get music from SOIVA for multiple locations?
Yes. We can utilise the same or different playlists across locations and manage them remotely in a centralised manner. Our user management system allows multiple people to manage different parts of the system as needed. SOIVA scales from a single café to a nationwide chain: our platform has served, among others, S Group venues. Get in touch, and we’ll build a package tailored to your specific needs.
How do SOIVA's Dynamic Playlists work?
SOIVA’s dynamic playlists are built parametrically using our metadata model: you select the desired genres, moods, tempo, language and other dimensions, and the system automatically generates a playlist that can contain over 1,500 tracks. Playlists update themselves as new tracks are added to the library. Different atmospheres can be scheduled to different times of day on a weekly calendar with hourly precision, and the combination playlist feature lets you mix up to 5 different lists by percentage (for example “80% normal atmosphere + 20% Christmas music”). We build the playlists that suit your needs.
Can I create playlists myself with SOIVA?
Yes. With the Pro version (€79/month) you get access to SOIVA Studio Manager remote control, which lets you create both traditional and dynamic playlists, combination playlists, and manage their scheduling. You can also manage atmospheres from anywhere using a browser.
SOIVA vs. FM Radio as background music
Using radio in a commercial space is cheaper, as there is no separate monthly fee for the service. On the other hand, radio means advertisements, station identifications and presenter talk in your space, and the music content cannot be targeted to your business or customer base. With SOIVA, you get a professionally curated atmosphere that evolves with the time of day, consistent volume and seamless track transitions — and you can try it free for 7 days.
How do I manage the atmosphere in my restaurant or commercial space with background music?
SOIVA is designed specifically for atmosphere management. We use intelligent automation to build dynamic playlists that match your venue’s mood: a calm morning atmosphere can transition into a more energetic lunchtime feel and a more intimate evening vibe. The atmosphere changes automatically according to a weekly calendar, with hourly precision. For special occasions, there is a combination playlist feature: for example, you can mix Christmas music into your regular atmosphere at your chosen percentage (say “20% Christmas music”) without having to change the entire playlist. You don’t need to select tracks yourself or figure out which playlist suits which moment — we build everything for you.
What should I check before contacting support?
SOIVA Player requires a stable internet connection. If the connection is unavailable or unstable, playback may be interrupted. Check that your internet connection is working properly (e.g., with a speed test). Verify that your audio system is functioning by playing music from another app or device as a test.
